About Decorative Concrete
Decorative concrete is as it sounds- concrete finished with aesthetics as a major consideration. It commonly refers to flatwork finished this way, but walls and structures can be finished decoratively also. Structural concrete finished with appearance in mind is usually referred to as architectural concrete. Decorative concrete requires proficiency in concrete flatwork so the structure lasts, but also needs skilled layout, well proportioned design, and skilled, specialised finishing techniques. We have the technical understanding necessary to creatively and durably manipulate concrete. This combines with CementWright’s artistic ability to create well proportioned work to make decorative concrete one of our core specialties.
Decorative Concrete Options
CementWright offers a range of decorative concrete options and can help you design your project. We offer combinations of the below:
- Textured or stamped & concrete
- exposed aggregate
- ground, polished, and densified concrete for durable floors
- acid stained concrete
- dyed concrete
- trowel in colour hardeners for your basement or shop floors
Our modular forming system lets us efficiently deliver well proportioned layout of curved sidewalks, patios, & other flatwork for more subtle decorative effects. Concrete can be coloured, which provides a lot of design options. We also can offer geometric design options with sawcuts and accented coloured caulking for elegant modern pieces. Don’t exclude concrete from consideration as a decking material, either; beautiful above ground decks can be made with concrete toppings as long as the structure is designed correctly.
Keep Good Concrete looking Swell
We offer maintenance and recovery options for your decorative concrete. We can clean and reseal your concrete as part of a maintenance program. We have options to refresh stamped concrete (called antiquing) that has been poorly maintained, and we can disguise defects and cracks with acid stain and other tricks. As long as the concrete is in the right condition, we can turn extend the lifespan of a spalling driveway by converting it into a fresh, exposed aggregate driveway. Maintenance is necessary to keep decorative concrete looking good; check out our offerings for more detail and then contact us if you’d like help with this.
Sweet concrete that looks good for long
Our extensive base prep and well built concrete flatwork with options for frost proofing means our decorative concrete is resistant to cracking and frost movement, but it is not entirely immune – cracking can occur. We recommend consideration of brick pavers if any concrete cracking is unacceptable. These are modular and flexible, and very durable if installed correctly on the appropriate base. Our sister company DirtWright can provide information on this if desired. CementWright mitigates cracks by carefully placed and correctly timed relief sawcuts to control the cracking of the concrete. We also have options for frost resistant (insulated) and frost proof (void form on piles or hybrid) concrete slab, if substantial movement is a concern.
We really enjoy the artistic side of concrete. CementWright would be happy to discuss your decorative concrete project and provide options that work for you. Please contact us and schedule an appointment.
